Netvantage Solution Enables Merkle to
Further Automate Payment and Donation Processing
Lanham, Md. and Gaithersburg, Md. -- May 16, 2006
Merkle (www.merklenet.com), a leading database marketing agency,
announced that it has turned to a software suite from Netvantage called
ItemAge© to more efficiently handle incoming payments and donations. As
a provider of lockbox services, Merkle’s Response Services division
receives, scans, processes, and deposits more than 50 million payments
and donations each year on behalf of its clients.
Netvantage’s system solution enables Merkle to process payment
transactions according to each client’s unique business rules and to
generate a bank deposit so that the funds are available as timely as
possible. The ItemAge software suite supports a wide variety of
scanning equipment and item processing transports, which enables Merkle
to image documents using the most efficient hardware platforms.
Once payments and donations are scanned, ItemAge is designed to automate
much of the processing by employing technologies such as optical
character recognition (OCR), courtesy/legal amount recognition (CAR/LAR),
and intelligent character recognition (ICR). In those instances where a
transaction requires additional processing steps, ItemAge supports
multiple workflow methodologies so that Merkle can perform amount keying
and other data entry functions as dictated by the job type.
Bill Sayre, President of Merkle Response Services, said, “Our clients
range from large national non-profit fundraising organizations to county
and city governments. Therefore, the incoming payments, donations and
documentation that we handle on behalf of our clients vary greatly in
size and shape. We needed a solution that could readily adapt and grow
with our clients’ needs, and support the delivery of transaction images
to our clients. ItemAge provides that flexibility and scalability. I am
equally impressed with its ease of implementation, and our ability to
integrate the software into our existing hardware, workflows and systems
seamlessly and in a short timeframe.”
Merkle has one of the nation’s largest response processing centers,
where it handles more than 50 million transactions annually. Merkle
offers complete mail processing, from the receipt of incoming mail
through the deposit of funds and transfer of data into client databases.
Netvantage President and CEO, Ken Bour, said, “As a sophisticated
lockbox service provider, Merkle required a solution that could
accommodate complex transaction types, automate a high percentage of the
work, and otherwise streamline what has traditionally been a
time-consuming and paper-intensive process. Our software offers Merkle
the features, functions, and tools to process practically any type of
incoming payment or donation efficiently, accurately, and, we hope,
profitably. Teaming with Merkle, we are immensely proud of our
accomplishments thus far and, with their ever-growing volume and
complexity, we hope to continue introducing enhancements that will
increase automation, decrease operational costs, and improve service
levels. ”
